Zero IBC Totes in Landfills.
That's Our North Star.
Every year, millions of intermediate bulk containers reach the end of their first use cycle. Many of them are in perfectly good condition. Others have reusable components worth recovering. Yet the default for too many businesses is to send them straight to the landfill, where the HDPE plastic and steel frames sit for decades.
We founded IBC Tanks Recycle to break that pattern. Our model is simple: we intercept used IBC totes before they become waste, assess their condition, and route each one toward its highest-value next use. Totes in good shape are professionally cleaned and returned to market. Those that can't be reused whole are dismantled, and the HDPE, steel, and valve components are sorted and sent to specialized recyclers.
The result is a closed-loop system that keeps materials in productive circulation, reduces virgin resource extraction, and gives our customers a cost-effective, environmentally responsible alternative to buying new every time.
What Drives Us

HDPE Bottle
High-density polyethylene is the industry standard for IBC inner bottles. It offers excellent chemical resistance, UV stability when treated, and is fully recyclable. A typical IBC bottle weighs between 40-55 lbs and represents the single largest recyclable component by weight. HDPE has a resin identification code of 2 and is one of the most readily recyclable plastics in the waste stream.
Steel Cage
The galvanized tubular steel cage provides structural integrity during storage, transport, and stacking. Cages typically weigh 28-40 lbs and are constructed from welded steel tubing with a zinc coating that prevents corrosion. When an IBC reaches end-of-life, the steel cage is one of the highest-value recyclable components and is easily separated from the bottle for scrap metal processing.
Valve Assembly
The bottom discharge valve is typically a 2-inch butterfly or ball valve made from polypropylene or stainless steel. Valve assemblies include gaskets, camlock fittings, and dust caps. Functioning valves are among the most reusable components of an IBC tote and can be cleaned, tested, and resold as replacement parts, extending their useful life well beyond the tote they originally came from.

Our Core Values in Action
Resourcefulness Over Waste
We grew up in Southern Indiana's manufacturing corridor, where nothing gets thrown away if it still has use. That mentality drives every decision we make. When a tote comes in with a cracked bottle but a perfectly good cage, we do not scrap the whole unit — we salvage the cage, recycle the HDPE, recover the valve, and put every component to its highest-value use. This material-level thinking is what allows us to achieve a 95% recovery rate.
Transparency in Every Transaction
We quote what we mean and deliver what we promise. Every IBC we sell comes with honest condition grading. Every buyback offer reflects fair market value. Every recycling certificate documents actual material flows. We have built our reputation on businesses being able to trust what we tell them, and we protect that reputation with every transaction.
Long-Term Partnerships
We are not chasing one-time sales. Our business model is built on repeat customers who come back because the quality is consistent, the pricing is fair, and the service is reliable. Many of our largest accounts started with a single pallet of totes and have grown into recurring monthly programs. We invest in understanding each customer's unique needs — from the types of products they handle to their delivery schedules and sustainability targets.
Continuous Improvement
We are never satisfied with how things are. Every quarter, we review our processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements. In the last two years alone, we have doubled our processing capacity, cut turnaround times by 30%, and reduced water consumption per tote by 42%. The IBC recycling industry is evolving, and we intend to lead that evolution.
The IBC Recycling Industry at a Glance
The global IBC container market is massive, and the environmental stakes of how these containers are managed at end-of-life are significant. Here is the data that drives our mission.
IBCs Produced Annually in the U.S.
New IBC production continues to grow as industries shift from drums to bulk containers for efficiency and cost savings.
IBCs Landfilled Each Year (Est.)
Despite being highly recyclable, a significant portion of used IBCs still end up in landfills due to lack of convenient recycling infrastructure.
HDPE Decomposition Time
The HDPE plastic in an IBC bottle takes centuries to break down in a landfill, leaching microplastics into soil and groundwater throughout.
Saved Per Recycled IBC
Recycling the HDPE and steel from one IBC tote prevents approximately 83 lbs of CO2 equivalent emissions compared to virgin material production.
Global IBC Market Value (2024)
The worldwide intermediate bulk container market continues to expand, driven by growth in chemicals, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors.
Average Reuse Potential
A well-maintained IBC tote can be reconditioned and reused 3 to 5 times before the bottle degrades to the point where recycling is the better option.

Frequently Asked Questions About IBC Tanks Recycle
Everything you need to know about our company, our services, and how we can help your business manage IBC containers more effectively.
What exactly does IBC Tanks Recycle do?
We are a full-service IBC tote management company based in Jeffersonville, Indiana. We buy used IBC containers from businesses nationwide, sell quality used and reconditioned totes, provide professional cleaning and reconditioning services, recycle end-of-life containers by recovering HDPE plastic, steel, and valve components, and arrange freight logistics for pickups and deliveries across all 50 states. Our goal is to keep every IBC tote in the circular economy for as long as possible.
What types of IBC totes do you accept?
We accept all standard composite IBC totes including 275-gallon, 330-gallon, and 350-gallon sizes. We handle totes that previously contained food-grade products, non-hazardous chemicals, agricultural products, industrial liquids, and more. We also accept IBCs in any condition — from nearly new to heavily used — since we can either recondition or recycle based on the tote's state. Contact us with details about your specific totes for a quick assessment and quote.
How does your pricing compare to buying new IBCs?
Our reconditioned IBC totes typically cost 40-60% less than brand new containers from OEM manufacturers. A new 275-gallon IBC can cost $250-$400 depending on specifications, while our reconditioned equivalents range from $100-$175. For businesses buying in volume, we offer additional quantity discounts. And when you factor in our buyback program — where we pay you for your used totes when you are done with them — the total lifecycle cost of using reconditioned IBCs is dramatically lower than buying new every time.
Do you service my area?
Yes. While our facility is located in Jeffersonville, Indiana, we arrange IBC pickups and deliveries across the entire continental United States. Our central location along major interstate corridors (I-65, I-64, I-71) keeps freight costs competitive to most major metro areas. For customers in the Ohio Valley and Southeast, we often offer direct pickup with our own fleet. For longer-distance shipments, we work with a network of freight carriers to find the best rates.
What is your minimum order or pickup quantity?
We do not enforce a strict minimum for purchases — you can buy as few as one tote if that is what you need. For our buyback and pickup program, we generally work with quantities of 10 or more totes to keep freight economics practical, though we make exceptions based on location and tote condition. For businesses with smaller quantities, we can often coordinate combined pickups in your area to make the logistics work.
How do you ensure quality in your reconditioned totes?
Every IBC that we sell goes through a rigorous multi-point inspection process. We check the HDPE bottle for cracks, warping, UV degradation, and staining. We assess the steel cage for structural integrity, bent tubing, and broken welds. We test the discharge valve for proper seal and operation. Totes that pass inspection then go through our multi-stage cleaning process. Food-grade totes undergo an FDA-aligned sanitization protocol. Each reconditioned tote receives a quality certificate documenting the cleaning and inspection process. If a tote does not pass our standards, it does not get sold — it gets recycled.
Can I set up a recurring buyback or supply arrangement?
Absolutely. Many of our largest accounts operate on recurring schedules — monthly, quarterly, or on-demand. We work with each customer to establish a program that fits their production cycles and container flow. Recurring customers benefit from consistent pricing, priority scheduling, and streamlined logistics. Contact our team to discuss setting up an ongoing program tailored to your needs.
What documentation do you provide for sustainability reporting?
We provide comprehensive material diversion certificates that document the number of IBCs diverted from landfill, the total weight of materials recovered, and the disposition of each material stream (reuse, HDPE recycling, steel recycling, component recovery). These certificates are formatted for inclusion in CSR reports, ESG filings, sustainability audits, and corporate zero-waste program documentation. We can also provide custom reporting if your organization has specific requirements.
